To manage the resources of a metal structure manufacturing plant and to determine the timelines and costs for prospective orders which encompass a wide range of products (beams, trusses, and flat or volumetric sections) intended for various applications (construction, shipbuilding, and hydraulic engineering) an engineering calculation methodology has been developed; this methodology is based on determining the structural and technological parameters of welded metal structures using their 3D models. Generalized empirical relationships have been established that make it possible–as early as the pre-design or pre-contract stage of cost negotiation for prospective orders–to forecast the design and manufacturing parameters of future welded metal structures and the resources required for their production, thereby reducing estimation uncertainty. Examples illustrating the application of the developed methodology are provided. The purpose of this article is to develop an engineering methodology for determining the design and manufacturing parameters of welded metal structures using their 3D models to establish generalized empirical relationships. The research method is based on the statistical analysis of data (design and technological parameters) derived from 3D models of actual metal structures. Results. The established generalized empirical relationships make it possible to predict the design and manufacturing parameters and the resources required for the production of various types of metal structures. Scientific novelty. It has been established that structures serving different purposes but sharing the same structural (technological) type exhibit similar specific technological indicators and, consequently, can be approximated by unified mathematical relationships. This is based on the similarity of the environmental factors–specifically the loads and effects–incorporated into the standards and regulations governing the design of metal structures across various industrial sectors. Practical significance. The developed engineering methodology makes it possible–as early as the pre-design or pre-contract stage–to forecast the design and manufacturing parameters and resources required to fulfill prospective orders, thereby reducing uncertainty regarding the cost of order execution.
