Multi‐Criteria Assessment of Asian Airport Competitiveness for Air Logistics‐Based Trade Considering Energy and Environmental Efficiency
ABSTRACT This study examines the efficiency and air logistics‐based trade competitiveness of five major Asian hub airports: Incheon International Airport, Hong Kong International Airport, Narita International Airport, Singapore Changi Airport, and Beijing Capital International Airport. Addressing the limited integration of air logistics‐based trade competitiveness with service and environmental performance in prior airport studies, this study develops an integrated AHP‐TOPSIS framework across six dimensions: infrastructure capacity, demand and traffic volume, network connectivity, financial performance, service quality, and energy and environmental efficiency. Using 3‐year average data from 2022 to 2024, AHP derives expert‐based weights and TOPSIS ranks the airports using measurable performance indicators. Incheon International Airport ranked first overall, followed by Hong Kong International Airport, Beijing Capital International Airport, Singapore Changi Airport, and Narita International Airport. The findings show that airport competitiveness reflects the combined performance of traffic, cargo, connectivity, financial sustainability, service, and environmental efficiency.
