Bioinspired Compartmentalized Sponge Integrating Active Biological Filtration and Redox Intervention for Hemostasis and Diabetic Wound Regeneration

ABSTRACT Effective management of severe hemorrhages and chronic diabetic wounds requires navigating a contradictory fluidic challenge: efficiently clearing hazardous exudates and pathogens without depleting critical regenerative factors. Conventional dressings rely on non‐selective bulk absorption, inadvertently drawing away essential cellular components along with waste fluids. Herein, we report a compartmentalized sponge that resolves this dilemma through a structurally and electrochemically programmable biological filtration strategy. By embedding a selective membrane between an outward‐facing random‐pore layer and a tissue‐facing aligned‐pore layer, the architecture drives directional outward translocation of plasma and micro‐scale pathogens. Concurrently, it physically traps vital regenerative components, like red blood cells and platelets, thereby accelerating localized coagulation at the tissue interface. To actively address microbial threats, Nb 2 C/CeO 2 (NbCe) heterojunctions are integrated into the matrix. The NbCe energy band structure matches the biological redox potential (BRP) of bacterial respiratory chains, triggering spontaneous interfacial electron efflux that effectively disrupts the microbial electron transport chain (ETC). Synergizing precise physical size‐exclusion with targeted thermodynamic biocatalysis, this sponge reduces hemostasis time and blood loss by ∼80% versus commercial Celox, achieving a 95.1% wound closure rate by day 15. This active‐separation platform offers a programmable biomaterials strategy for full‐process tissue repair.
