We Have Gone Very Quiet: The Postponement of Palestinian Elections and the Silence Around It
Essay on the October 10, 2026 postponement of Palestinian legislative elections to September 2027, set against the January 2006 Palestinian Legislative Council election and its rejection by Israel and the United States. Argues that writers attentive to democratic backsliding in Israel and the United States have been silent on the suffocation of Palestinian democracy, and traces the mechanism from the 2006 Quartet conditions to the written-pledge requirement now in Palestinian election law.
