Integrating Biophilic Design and Urban Forestry in High-Density Hospitality: Prototyping and Multi-Tool Simulation via Autodesk Forma, and i-Tree Eco
Rapid urbanization has severely reduced green spaces in high-density cities, isolating urban occupants from natural ecosystems. While biophilic design and urban forestry are recognized as effective strategies to enhance environmental quality and human well-being, their practical integration within mid-tier urban hospitality remains limited. This chapter proposes an architectural prototyping and computational validation framework for a high-density urban business hotel. By transforming a monolithic building mass through subtractive geometry (cave, canopy, and sky terrace typologies) and embedding 30+ endemic Indonesian flora species, the prototype seeks to balance commercial spatial efficiency with ecological performance. Utilizing computational simulation tools including Autodesk Forma, and i-Tree Eco, the prototype's microclimate regulation, solar exposure, wind corridors, outdoor thermal comfort (UTCI), and carbon sequestration potential are quantitatively validated. The findings provide an empirical, replicable model for architects and urban planners to align hospitality architecture with Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
