A study of price dynamics for key fish species in the Murmansk region

The study analyzes price trends for key fish and seafood products in the Murmansk Region and assesses their components. It notes that the Murmansk Region is a leader in fisheries activities in the Russian Arctic, possessing the greatest potential and a more developed maritime infrastructure. Among the key economic indicators for the Murmansk Region, the indicator “fisheries and fish farming” in particular has a positive value. It is noted that the harvest (catch) of aquatic biological resources in the Northern Fisheries Basin is declining, while fish and seafood prices are showing a steady upward trend. An analysis of wholesale and retail prices for key fish products in the cities of Murmansk and Moscow, which are subject to shocks over time, was conducted. A direct correlation has been established between fish consumption by the population and the growth in seafood prices, the export orientation of the fishing industry and the rapid rise in fuel prices for fishing companies.
