VISUAL EXPLORATION OF THE STORY OF ARJUNA WIWAHA THROUGH THE STYLE OF WAYANG KAMASAN ON POTTERY MEDIA
Changes in public interest, particularly among younger generations, have shifted toward artworks that offer strong visual appeal, functionality, and commercial value. As a result, traditional art forms such as Kamasan wayang painting have become less attractive when presented in their conventional form. This phenomenon highlights the need to develop new media for traditional art without compromising the pakem (traditional conventions) that define its distinctive identity. This artistic project aims to explore the application of the Kamasan painting style on pottery by depicting the story of Arjuna Wiwaha, which embodies philosophical values of self-control, steadfast faith, and responsibility in life. The creative process employed includes the stages of idea exploration, visual design, and the realization of the artwork on pottery while consistently adhering to the traditional pakem of the Kamasan style. The selection of pottery as the medium is based on its aesthetic, functional, and economic potential, allowing the artworks to be utilized in everyday life. The outcome of this project is a series of visual artworks that apply the Kamasan painting style to pottery. These works are expected to serve as an innovative development of media in traditional art while contributing to the preservation of its cultural values, as well as producing artworks with aesthetic quality, practical function, and economic potential.
