Integrating Generative Artificial Intelligence into Financial Management Teaching: An Instructional Design for Finance Leasing
Financial Management courses often fall short in linking computational training with financing decision analysis. Taking finance leasing as a case, this paper explores how generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) can be brought into the classroom. The instructional design is built around a scenario in which a private hospital finances the purchase of medical equipment, and it connects rent calculation, comparison of financing alternatives, and scrutiny of decision conditions through a four-stage process: independent calculation, AI questioning, professional verification, and decision reconstruction. Students first carry out the calculations and form a preliminary financing judgment, then use generative AI to interrogate financing constraints and uncover the assumptions behind a plan, and finally verify the AI-generated content against financial principles to strengthen their argument. The design takes students' own judgments as the starting point of human-AI interaction and assigns AI the role of revealing and examining the conditions under which a financing plan holds, rather than making the decision for them. This approach offers a reference for bringing generative AI into accounting and finance courses.
