Hubungan Aktivitas Fisik dan Konsumsi Junk Food dengan Obesitas Dewasa Muda di Puskesmas Tanjung Sengkuang
Obesity is a condition characterized by excessive body fat accumulation that may increase the risk of various non-communicable diseases. Globally, the prevalence of obesity among adults increased from 6.6% in 1990 to 15.8% in 2022. In the Riau Islands Province, obesity prevalence reached 26.8%, while insufficient physical activity affected 49.8% of the population and consumption of high-fat or unhealthy foods reached 61%. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between physical activity, junk food consumption, and obesity among young adults. A quantitative analytical approach with a cross-sectional design was employed. Physical activity and food consumption data were collected using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) and Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), respectively, while obesity was determined based on Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements. Data were analyzed using Fisher’s Exact Test because some cells had expected counts below 5. The results showed a significant relationship between physical activity and obesity (p < 0.001). In contrast, junk food consumption was not significantly associated with obesity (p = 1.000). In conclusion, physical activity was significantly associated with obesity among young adults, whereas junk food consumption was not. Young adults are encouraged to maintain regular physical activity, limit junk food consumption, and monitor body weight regularly.
