Feasibility and Efficacy of Cryoablation as an Eyeball Salvage Therapy for Radiation-resistant Orbital/Choroidal Metastases
Orbital and choroidal metastases are rare and usually occur in disseminated disease. Treatment is palliative and aims to preserve visual function and maximize quality of life. When lesions progress despite radiotherapy, enucleation may become necessary, with major functional and psychological consequences. Cryoablation has been used in intraocular tumors such as retinoblastoma, but its use for orbital and choroidal metastases is rarely reported. We describe two patients in whom cryoablation was used as a minimally invasive, eye-preserving alternative to enucleation.
