Second Stage Caesarean Section and Subsequent Preterm Birth
ABSTRACT Caesarean section during the second stage of labour has been associated with an increased risk of subsequent preterm birth. This risk has been hypothesised to be a product of inadvertent cervical trauma, compromising the integrity of the cervix in the subsequent pregnancy. Understanding the biological complications of this procedure may help guide clinician decision‐making to reduce future risk of preterm birth within this population.
