THE ROLE OF AI-POWERED DUOLINGO AND ELSA SPEAK APPS IN REDUCING SPEAKING ANXIETY AMONG ENGLISH LEARNERS IN PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES OF DHAKA, BANGLADESH

This study has explored the influence of speaking anxiety as a major obstacle for English as foreign language learners (EFL) in their non-native environment like in the private universities in Dhaka, Bangladesh. With the up rise of Artificial Intelligence, English language learning applications have incorporated AI-based features to enhance the learning experience. This finding examined how AI-supported speaking apps, in this instance, Duolingo and ELSA Speak, reduce speaking anxiety and increase learners' confidence, fluency and speaking skills through AI-driven personalized feedback, gamified interaction and adaptive learning. This research used mixed-method approach, which included qualitative and quantitative methods to provide comprehensive insights and understanding. The results of the study pointed to the effectiveness of AI-based language learning apps in creating a supportive language-learning atmosphere, enhancing the learning process and reducing stress levels when practicing oral communication. The results of this study could contribute to the understanding of how AI-based app-based learning can be incorporated in the university curriculum and evidence-based recommendations for teachers, educational technology designers and policy makers.
