Linguocultural expression of metaphoric-symbolic antonymy in English and Uzbek film script

Film scripts encode not only communicative intent but also culturally shaped models of experience. Metaphoric-symbolic antonyms (e.g., hope–despair; light–darkness; halol–haram) function beyond lexical opposition by activating culturally salient value systems and narrative mythologies. This article comparatively examines how English-language and Uzbek film scripts employ antonymic pairs to represent conflict, morality, social hierarchy, and identity. The analysis is grounded in Conceptual Metaphor Theory and linguoculturological approaches to cultural meaning in language. Muallif qo'lyozmasi (preprint). Ushbu matnning ilmiy nashrda (jurnal yoki konferensiya to'plamida) e'lon qilinganligi tasdiqlanmagan; ushbu yozuv nashr dalili hisoblanmaydi. Fayl muallif taqdim etgan matndan nashriyot kolontitullari va sahifa raqamlarisiz tayyorlangan. Author's manuscript (preprint). Abstract

Film scripts encode not only communicative intent but also culturally shaped models of experience. Metaphoric-symbolic antonyms (e.g., hope–despair; light–darkness; halol–haram) function beyond lexical opposition by activating culturally salient value systems and narrative mythologies. This article comparatively examines how English-language and Uzbek film scripts employ antonymic pairs to represent conflict, morality, social hierarchy, and identity. The analysis is grounded in Conceptual Metaphor Theory and linguoculturological approaches to cultural meaning in language. Muallif qo'lyozmasi (preprint). Ushbu matnning ilmiy nashrda (jurnal yoki konferensiya to'plamida) e'lon qilinganligi tasdiqlanmagan; ushbu yozuv nashr dalili hisoblanmaydi. Fayl muallif taqdim etgan matndan nashriyot kolontitullari va sahifa raqamlarisiz tayyorlangan. Author's manuscript (preprint). Publication of this text in a journal or proceedings has not been confirmed; this record is not evidence of publication.
