Underrecognized PM2.5 and PM10 Exposure in High-Density Social Microenvironments in Nigerian Cities
RecommendationsAir pollution exposure assessment in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs) relies primarily on ambient outdoor monitoring and household measurements, leaving transient high-density social environments largely uncharacterized.1,2 Football viewing centers, semienclosed, densely occupied commercial venues where patrons gather to watch live broadcasts, are prominent nodes of urban social activity across Nigeria, yet their air quality implications remain entirely uncharacterized. We report PM 2.5 and PM 10 concentrations measured in these venues across five Nigerian cities and examine how concentrations vary by city and event-attendance type.
