Online Chess Coaching at Scale: Engagement and Progress Patterns Across 1,000+ Students in 20+ Countries
This practitioner paper describes the observed practice of delivering live online chess coaching at scale: more than 1,000 students taught, over 30,000 live coaching hours delivered, across 20+ countries, for students aged 5 and above. It documents Group (max 8–10), Semi-Private (max 3–4) and one-to-one formats, how FIDE-rated coaches track student progress, and engagement patterns by age group and format. Findings are qualitative and practice-based — working coaches' observations across thousands of lessons, not a controlled experiment.
