Assessing the Effectiveness of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Initiatives in Alleviating Poverty: A Case Study in Katondo Ward, Kabwe Central Constituency, Zambia

This study examines the effectiveness of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) initiatives in alleviating poverty. A case study of Katondo ward, Zambia. The research is aimed at evaluating how CDF-funded projects contribute to improving livelihoods, access to basic services (social services) as well as community development. A mixed-methods approach was employed combining questionnaires, interviews, and field observations to collect both quantitative and qualitative data from residents, community leaders, and government officials. Findings indicate that CDF initiatives have led to improvements in many social services such as infrastructure, education, and small-scale economic activities. Challenges such as inadequate funding, delayed disbursement, limited community participation, and poor monitoring mechanisms hinder their full impact. The study concludes that CDF has potential because it is a poverty reduction tool complemented by transparent management, enhanced stakeholder engagement, and consistent project evaluation. Recommendations such as strengthening participatory planning, ensuring timely release of funds, and implementing robust monitoring systems to maximize developmental outcomes in Katondo ward of Kabwe Township.
