“Bridging the Digital Divide in Academic Libraries: Strategies for Promoting Equitable Access to Digital Information Resources at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi”
This study examined strategies for promoting equitable access to digital information resources in the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi library, focusing on bridging the digital divide among users. The study adopted a descriptive survey design, involving 120 respondents comprising 20 library staff and 100 students across levels. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including mean, standard deviation, and one-way ANOVA. The findings revealed that while digital resources such as e-journals, databases, and online catalogues were available, access was hindered by inadequate infrastructure, limited bandwidth, and insufficient user training. The ANOVA test indicated a significant relationship between digital infrastructure availability and access to digital information resources (p < 0.05). The study concluded that bridging the digital divide requires both infrastructural development and digital literacy initiatives. It recommended continuous investment in ICT facilities, regular digital skills training for both staff and students, and collaborative partnerships with information technology organizations to ensure inclusive access to digital resources.
