Modular urban furniture design for young adults’ fragmented time use
At present, the function of urban furniture is relatively single, which cannot meet the needs of people. In this study, 180 young adults (aged 18–35 years) were interviewed by questionnaires and structured interviews. According to the survey, 86.7% of them want to be configurability, 74.4% focus on the environmental integration, and 76.7% need to use multi-activity support. Based on the above requirements, the study followed the five principles of practicality, economy, aesthetics, modularity and sustainability, and produced a modular urban furniture with a flexible size of 400–500 mm - intelligence landscape seat, and the landscape seat is made of sustainable materials. According to the results of semi-structured interviews, the device can improve the retention intention of users. Through semi-structured interviews, it was found that the retention intention of users was increased compared with that of ordinary seats. Sustainable materials promote the effective implementation of the concept of circular economy in production, procurement and recycling. This study provides theoretical and practical reference for urban furniture design and promoting the sustainable development of public space.
