Genotypic parity in muscle power vs metabolism: Individualizing training and psychological paradigms in twin sprint swimmers
While twin athletes often share baseline genetic predispositions for muscle fiber composition and aerobic capacity, micro-variations in neurological and metabolic genes can drastically alter performance, training experience, fatigue recovery, and fueling. This case study examines two adolescent competitive twin swimmers who possess identical genetic markers for explosive muscle power (ACTN3 CC), aerobic response (ACE, ADRB3), and intrinsic motivation (BDNF CC). Despite these similarities, they exhibit significant divergence in pain perception (COMT), gluten tolerance (HLA), and macronutrient satiety (SH2B1). This paper proposes a framework for hyper-individualized sports psychology and precision nutrition, demonstrating how two athletes built for the same events (50m/100m sprint swimming) require distinct coaching environments and dietary protocols to reach elite performance.
