Caregiver Self-Care: Design of a Multimodal Educational Intervention in the Southwest Integrated Health Services Subnetwork of Bogotá

Introduction and Objective: Informal caregivers experience a high prevalence of anxiety and depression, compromising their well-being and the quality of care they provide. In Bogotá, Colombia, district strategies such as the "Manzanas del Cuidado" and "Buses del Cuidado" are not specifically designed to address these psychoeducational needs within clinical settings. This study aimed to design an accessible, context-adapted multimodal educational intervention to promote self-care and emotional well-being among informal caregivers in the Southwest Integrated Health Services Subnetwork (Subred Sur Occidente) of Bogotá. Methodology: First, a systematic literature search was conducted across Scopus, PubMed/MEDLINE, and Embase, supplemented with gray literature and institutional programs operating in Bogotá. Subsequently, the intervention was structured using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, and Development phases) and the Eight-Stage Health Education Planning Instrument. Results: Core needs identified included caregiver burden, mental health symptoms, social isolation, unawareness of support networks, and lack of low-cost, easily accessible strategies. A multimodal intervention combining e-Health (SMS/WhatsApp messaging) and in-person group workshops was designed, alongside a baseline characterization and follow-up protocol using the validated Barthel, Zarit, WEMWBS, and MOS-SSS scales. Discussion and Conclusion: The proposal integrates scientific evidence with the target population's needs, prioritizing low-barrier communication channels within a pragmatic single-arm framework. Because the project reached the development phase, empirical effectiveness cannot yet be determined; however, a methodological roadmap is provided for future public health implementation and evaluation.
