Automated Internship Management at Scale: A GitHub-Based Platform for Remote Internships of 10,000+ Students
Remote internships let organisations offer practical experience to large numbers ofstudents, but coordinating them by hand stops working long before the cohort reachesthousands. This report describes the design and implementation of an AutomatedInternship Management System built to run remote internships for more than 10,000students. Each student works in a fork of an assigned project's template repository onGitHub, so commits and pull requests become timestamped evidence of work. Theplatform assigns projects automatically, synchronises repository activity through theGitHub API, validates effort with explicit rules, records credit in an append-only ledgerand derives results with a deterministic engine that can be re-run and audited. A SuperAdmin dashboard with more than 70 management modules and a narrower Mentordashboard support oversight, and a live leaderboard gives students continuous feedback. The report explains the requirements, architecture, core mechanisms and operationallessons, and discusses limitations of using version-control activity as a proxy for effort.
