Changing Workplaces and Women's Mental Health: Challenges, Risks and Supportive Pathways

Abstract: Changing workplaces are reshaping women’s experiences of employment and creating new implications for mental health. This paper examines how digital transformation, remote and hybrid work, increasing workloads, job insecurity, gender inequality, workplace discrimination, and multiple role responsibilities influence women’s psychological wellbeing. It highlights that workplace risks vary across occupational settings and are often intensified when professional demands intersect with unpaid caregiving and family responsibilities. The discussion further considers the importance of organisational support, equitable employment practices, supportive leadership, and accessible mental health services. Sustainable improvement requires attention to both individual coping resources and the structural conditions that generate psychological strain. Policy, institutional, and individual strategies must therefore operate together to create safer, inclusive, and responsive work environments that protect women’s mental health and support their meaningful participation in rapidly changing contemporary workplaces. Keywords: Women’s Mental Health; Changing Workplaces; Workplace Stress; Gender Inequality; Organisational Support.
