Beglova E.I. Publicistic text as creative product of artificial intelligence and human author

The article deals with the lexical and stylistic analysis of three essays generated by artificial intelligence and one essay by a human author on the same topic. The differences in the lexical and expressive means that convey emotionality, evaluation, and the degree of subjectivity have been revealed. The functional styles of each essay produced by artificial intelligence have been identified. The conclusion is made that artificial intelligence does not draw clear boundaries between styles and genres of texts, between essays, in particular, for example, between the publicistic and literary styles, or between the colloquial and literary styles. It is claimed that at the current stage of the artificial intelligence development and application in generating texts of different styles, the problem lies in the AI’s failure to distinguish between functional styles and text genres. AI cannot generate words based on cultural, literary, linguistic, and other associations related to word play in the way a human can.
