PEMBERIAN BORAKS DENGAN TIGA VARIASI DOSIS TERHADAP AKTIVITAS ENZIM SGOT DAN SGPT DALAM DARAH MENCIT JANTAN MELALUI PROSES INDUKSI

The misuse of borax as an unauthorized food additive is still widely found in processed foods to improve texture and shelf life. This study aims to analyze the effect of subacute oral borax administration across three dose variations on the activity of Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT) and Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (SGOT) in male mice (Mus musculus). This true experimental study employed a post-test only control group design using 32 male Balb/c mice divided into four groups: control, treatment 1 (1.51 mg/kg BW), treatment 2 (3.02 mg/kg BW), and treatment 3 (4.52 mg/kg BW) administered orally for 14 days. The One-Way ANOVA test showed significant differences among groups for both SGPT activity (F(3, 28) = 71.957; p < 0.001) and SGOT activity (F(3, 28) = 37.983; p < 0.001). Post-hoc Tukey Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) tests confirmed that SGPT levels increased significantly across escalating dose groups (p < 0.001), whereas SGOT levels between treatment groups 2 and 3 showed no statistically significant difference (p = 0.094). The increased activity of these transaminase enzymes indicates altered hepatocyte membrane permeability and supports the presumption of dose-dependent hepatocellular injury induced by subacute borax exposure.
