A Simple Explanation of the Origin of Universal Gravitation: Gravity and Centrifugal Force as Two Sides of One Coin
A simple explanation of the origin of universal gravitationThis short note offers a simple, accessible explanation of the origin of universal gravitation, starting from a basic calculation of the Earth–Moon system. Using average values, the gravitational force between Earth and the Moon (GMm/r2GMm/r2) and the centrifugal force each body experiences in its rotation about the common center of mass (mω2rmω2r) are found to be equal to within less than 0.1% — an identity, not an approximation. From this observation, the note argues that universal gravitation is not an isolated force but one side of a coin whose other side is the centrifugal force generated in a rotating frame of reference. The two appear simultaneously, with no before or after, like the chicken and the egg: they are an inseparable pair whose dynamic balance is the condition for orbital structures to remain stable through billions of years of change. This is presented as a macroscopic expression of physical symmetry — stability within change. The argument is then extended: wherever two celestial bodies, or two groups of celestial bodies, have a significant gravitational interaction, there must exist a counterbalancing force — known or unknown — because that is the condition for such a structure to exist stably. The universe we observe persists precisely because every structure in it is in a state of dynamic equilibrium between such paired forces. If gravity alone existed, the universe would collapse; if rotation alone existed, it would fly apart.Written for a general audience, the note uses only simple algebra and order-of-magnitude estimates, and is intended as a conceptual perspective rather than a formal derivation. Keywords: universal gravitation; centrifugal force; rotating frame; orbital stability; barycenter; Earth–Moon system; dynamic equilibrium; symmetry in physics🇻🇳 Bản tiếng Việt (nếu bạn muốn song ngữ hoặc dùng nội bộ)Lời giải thích đơn giản về nguồn gốc của lực hấp dẫn vũ trụBài viết ngắn này đưa ra một lời giải thích đơn giản, dễ tiếp cận về nguồn gốc của lực hấp dẫn vũ trụ, bắt đầu từ một phép tính cơ bản về hệ Trái Đất – Mặt Trăng.
