Novokult LLM: On the New Culture
Novokult LLM is a desktop application that runs a large language model on your own computer. It is built for left-wing organizers, researchers, and writers. Once a model file is on your machine, drafting, analysis, and chat can stay there. It has three modes: analysis of events and texts through a Marxist framework, agitprop drafting (leaflets, slogans, speeches, songs, strike bulletins), and free chat. You can load your own texts as a Sources Library, turn on web search routed through Tor, and export posters. The design starts from an argument. AI is machinery, and most of it is rented from a few firms that see every prompt. Novokult runs the machine where its users live and work, and its code is published under the Peer Production License, a copyfarleft license meant to keep it in common. The title of this paper names the older question behind that choice: who builds a movement's culture, and with what tools. The name Novokult contracts the Russian новая культура (novaya kultura), "new culture." Version 1.0.0 is built for Windows (portable and installer) and Linux (AppImage and deb). An Android port exists in the code but is unfinished.
