A Chronological Summary of the Translation and Transmission of Sanskrit Literature into Tibetan Script and Culture
The accurate translation, and subsequent authentic transmission, of Sanskrit literature into Tibetan script and culture, is phenomena of strategic interest and importance to all Tibetans. Perhaps it has no parallel anywhere in the world. Tibetan translations represent a holistic approach ensuring that both the literal and thematic aspects of Sanskrit literature are original and accurate. Therefore the authoritative role of Tibetan Buddhism as transmitters of doctrine and practice, is based on the accuracy and authenticity of the original Sanskrit translations. The life stories of Indian Sanskrit masters, teachers, and saints are zealously preserved and are the foundation for Tibetan teaching lineages.
