the autocatalytic metabolic wormhole
Read as a graph, a wormhole is not a tunnel. It is a misalignment between two clocks, held still by a throat. Without a throat the misalignment grows without end; with a throat it stops at a constant value. And if the throat widens in proportion to what passes through it, it becomes autocatalytic: the misalignment itself builds the throat and keeps it open. The work starts from four public facts. In 2005 three caesium clocks taken up Mount Rainier gained 22 nanoseconds in about 42 hours, a rate difference of 1.46 × 10⁻¹³. A skydiver stops accelerating when gravity and air drag balance. A particle collider turns energy into mass in a minute region. And in 2022 a quantum processor simulated the dynamics of a traversable wormhole, showing that what crosses the throat is information, not matter. From these facts I build a fourteen-node graph: two identical mouths, each a closed seven-node cycle (energy, mass, gravity, spacetime fabric, balancing of velocities, local time, frequency), autocatalytic in Kauffman's sense. Three throat arcs join only the rhythm nodes: time, frequency and velocity. No arc touches mass, gravity or energy. Spectral graph theory measures the structure. Without a throat the Laplacian has two zero eigenvalues: two worlds that know nothing of each other. One arc is enough to lift a zero, and the Fiedler value becomes the opening of the throat (0.124 with one arc, 0.286 with three). Kirchhoff's theorem shows that three arcs do not add robustness but compose it: 595 spanning trees instead of 147. Cheeger's inequality and an exhaustive cut search show that the throat is the minimum cut of the graph as long as it stays narrow (κ < 7/6). The dynamics combine distributed consensus with a throat whose weight grows with the gap it carries and decays with its maintenance cost. The central result is simple and verifiable: the gap on every throat arc always settles at b/a, the ratio of cost to gain, whatever the misalignment between the mouths. What changes is the width of the throat, which grows in exact proportion to the misalignment. The throat is a dissipative structure in Prigogine's sense: if the difference vanishes, it closes by itself. The wormhole exists if and only if b/a < D, the threshold beyond which the two mouths stop recognising each other. The model is then read in the ternary grammar −1 · 0 · +1 and in today's living. Generations, territories, work, credit, care and the person with themselves are all pairs of mouths with different rhythms. The graph yields five rules: connect rhythms, not masses; hold the gap rather than cancel it; size the bond to the difference; keep the cost below the threshold; open several channels, not one. It is a small, non-scalable innovation that can be applied tomorrow morning. This is a theoretical model of structure, not a proposal in experimental physics or a theory of time travel. All figures are reproducible from the stated method. It does not do politics: it proposes a civilisation of solutions, for everyone.
