Design and Fabrication of a Water Purification System with Integrated Hot/Normal Water Dispensing and Automated Hydration Alerts

AbstractSafe drinking water is only half of the hydration problem, because many people also forget to drink enough. This project presents a compact, microcontroller-controlled water purifier that handles both. It uses a sediment filter, an activated carbon stage and an RO membrane with a DC booster pump, plus a solenoid-switched branch that gives either normal or hot water from one unit. A float switch prevents overflow, a thermistor protects against overheating, and an RTC-based timer sounds an alarm and shows an on-screen “Drink water” reminder every hour. The layout was modelled in CAD, and a bench prototype with pumps, motor drivers and pH, TDS, turbidity and temperature sensors is now in functional testing. The estimated cost is about ₹11,800 to ₹13,000, which makes the design an affordable option for homes, offices, care facilities and institutions.
