Trends and Classification of the Food Security Index Across Regencies and Cities in Central Java Province, 2019 to 2024
Food security first emerged at the World Food Conference (1974), which defined food security in the context of food supply. Food security plays a vital role in the national and international political agenda. Food security is one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In Indonesia, the national and local governments are obligated to establish, organise, and develop an integrated food information system. One of the ways to implement this policy is through the development of the Food Security Index (IKP) by the National Food Agency. The IKP is an information system that assesses regional food security by measuring indicators that cover the availability, affordability, and food utilisation. Monitoring developments in food security in Central Java is important to determine whether the increase in the Food Security Index is supported by improved food security status across all regencies and cities. A total of 19 regencies and cities are in a “strong and improving” position, 1 regency is in a “strong but declining” position, 12 regencies and cities are in a “weak but improving” position, and 3 regencies are in a “weak and declining” position. Regional mapping based on these development classifications is necessary to identify the key areas requiring intervention to improve food security status.
