TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTS OF PHYSIO YOGA: A HOLISTIC DETOX APPROACH ON SLEEP QUALITY, ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION IN GERIATRIC POPULATION: A QUASI-EXPERIMENTAL STUDY
Background: Ageing involves physical and psychological shifts, with sleep disturbances, anxiety, and depression reducing quality of life. Holistic non-pharmacological modalities are needed. Physio-Yoga: A Holistic Detox Approach integrates physiotherapy exercises with yoga, controlled breathing, relaxation, and sensorimotor activities to address age-related decline. Objective: To evaluate the effects of Physio-Yoga: A Holistic Detox approach on sleep quality , anxiety and depression in geriatric population. Methods: A quasi-experimental study evaluated 50 geriatric participants (aged 60–90 years) in Vadodara, India, selected via purposive sampling. Participants completed a four-week supervised Physio-Yoga intervention (three days weekly). Results: Pre- and post-intervention scores were compared using Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Tests in SPSS 32.0, with significance set at p < 0.05. The cohort included 26 males and 24 females (median age: 67.5 years). Post-intervention median PSQI scores decreased from 7 to 4 (Z = -6.158, p < .001), demonstrating improved sleep quality. Median GAD-7 scores dropped from 6 to 3 (Z = -5.648, p < .001), showing reduced anxiety. Median GDS-15 scores decreased from 8 to 4 (Z = -6.133, p < .001), reflecting reduced depressive symptoms. Conclusion: The Physio-Yoga: A Holistic Detox approach intervention produced statistically significant improvements in sleep quality, anxiety, and depression, serving as a feasible non-pharmacological strategy for community-based geriatric rehabilitation.
