El discurso escondido de las Galápagos: Una relectura de The Encantadas, or Enchanted Isles de Herman Melville
This article examines the source of a counternarrative on Latin American and Ecuadorian historiography, by reinterpreting the seventh story of Herman Melville's The Encantadas (1856). If one of Melville's interests is his inability to accept or reject the Emersonianism, it is useful to identify the specificity of his criticism of transcendental philosophy by looking at his short stories. His stories allowed the author of Moby Dick to recreate a model of resistance based on the representation of the Galapagos, a crucial space for modernity in Western thought.
