Universal values as an object of linguocultural research in Spanish and Uzbek
Universal human values form the core of the linguistic worldview, yet their linguocultural status in Spanish-Uzbek comparison has been described partially, mostly on psycholinguistic data. The study is novel in examining the value vocabulary of two unrelated languages along thematic and etymological dimensions. It substantiates universal values as an object of linguocultural analysis and proposes a comparative procedure. The material comprises 64 lexemes, 32 per language, selected from explanatory dictionaries; componential, etymological and quantitative analyses were combined with secondary treatment of published associative data. The thematic distribution does not differ statistically across languages (chi-square 0.66; p = 0.88). Etymological stratification diverges sharply: 75 percent of Uzbek units derive from Arabic and Persian stems, while 93.8 percent of Spanish units have Latin stems (p < 0.001). Rankings of six values in associative data agree moderately (ρ = 0.71). The model applies to contrastive linguistics, translation and teaching Spanish to Uzbek students.
