The AI as an Intellectual Companion in the Mind Playground: An Observational Investigation of Human–AI Interaction, Humor, Familiarity, Trust, and Conversational Distortion

This research paper by independent scholar Yeshayahu Ben-Yehudah examines intellectual companionship, humor, familiarity, trust, and conversational distortion within an ongoing investigation of human–artificial intelligence interaction. The study explores the author's experience of engaging with a conversational AI system, informally known as “Sol,” as an intellectual companion within his MIND Playground. Through documented exchanges involving humor, philosophical inquiry, scholarly collaboration, recurring errors, and conversational familiarity, the investigation examines how human–AI relationships may influence communication, interpretation, and observational fidelity. Particular attention is given to the distinction between conversational companionship and assumptions about AI consciousness, as well as the potential for familiar interactions to produce both accurate understanding and distortion. The investigation includes the researcher's own intentions, assumptions, corrections, and application of the Ben-Yehudah Six-Pillar Process Architecture, ensuring that neither the human participant nor the AI system is exempt from examination. The paper contributes to the continuing study of AI reliability, human self-governance, trust calibration, communication accuracy, and the conditions under which humans and artificial intelligence can interact more effectively. Abstract
