Co-Creating Value under Epistemic Scarcity: A Preliminary Inquiry into Generative Commons

The reproducibility of symbolic outputs in AI-mediated production complicates some inferences from observable achievements to the histories, contributions, and capacities involved in their creation. Direct observation, shared practice, and co-experience offer situated avenues of relational knowledge, yet opportunities for such inquiry depend on finite time, attention, access, and consent. This paper examines value co-formation under these conditions of epistemic scarcity. It distinguishes valuable outcomes and acquired capacities from value co-formation, in which interaction contributes to a change in evaluative purposes, standards, or understood worthwhile possibilities. A generative commons is developed as a candidate institutional field in which resources, continuing practices, and revisable rules may support these processes. The inquiry considers the epistemic contribution of shared activity and partial trajectory records, together with the distribution of entry opportunities, recognition, benefits, and authority over institutional rules. It advances a provisional account of generative-relational justice attentive to heterogeneous valuations, autonomy, affected nonparticipants, and the right to refuse participation. Educational institutions and urban environments provide possible settings for comparative investigation. The proposed mechanisms are conceptual and conditional; their effectiveness and normative adequacy require historical, empirical, and philosophical assessment.
