AIRBAG SYSTEM IN TWO – WHEELERS

Two-wheelers are among the most widely used modes of transportation, yet they remain highly vulnerable to road accidents due to limited structural protection for riders. Where riders are highly vulnerable to side-impact collisions and fall-related injuries in most crash scenarios, especially during skidding, sudden braking, or side falls, the rider’s body directly impact with the road surface, leading to severe injuries to the Body. Conventional safety systems such as helmets and protective kit primarily safeguard the head and upper body, leaving the lower limbs and lateral body regions exposed during crashes. This research paper proposes and analyses the concept of right and left side downward mounted deploying airbags for two-wheelers, designed to enhance safety by absorbing impact energy during falls and collisions. The proposed system deployment mechanism of the dual side airbags installed on a lower right and left sides of the motorcycle frame deployment when sudden abnormal tilt angles, sudden accident. These airbags are intended to deploy upward and outward upon sensing a critical tilt angle, sudden lateral acceleration, or impact force, thereby creating a barrier between the rider’s body and the road surface. The study discussing suitable sensor integration, triggering mechanisms, airbag geometry, inflation timing, and material selection considering and dynamic behaviour of two-wheelers. This system offering a Cost-effective and compact safety solution that helps to be integrated into existing two-wheeler designs with minor structural modifications. It helps advancing active–passive hybrid safety systems for motorcycles and opens new directions for improving rider protection beyond conventional helmet-based safety approaches.
