Stanislavsky’s System in Upper High School Theatre

This paper examines the application of Stanislavsky’s acting techniques in a theatre group consisting of 22 upper high school students, with the idea that this method can serve as the foundation for their theatrical education, actor training, and rehearsal preparation for a theatre performance. There was a collaboration between two schools located in the southern suburbs of Athens and the research spanned the entire school year 2022–23. Data were collected from students’ questionnaires, interviews, video shots, social media collective conversations, and observation of the whole process by the researcher and her critical friend (a professional actor who collaborates and co–directs with the researcher for almost ten years). The results of the research demonstrate that Stanislavsky’s techniques are essential for students to begin their theatrical journey and discover their “theatrical” selves. Stanislavsky’s system can enable students to harness their personal characteristics, experiences, knowledge, and imagination as creative materials for the production of an artwork that expresses them individually and collectively.
