Pages From My Hellerau Diary

This diary contains notes and research sketches on the former Émile Jaques-Dalcroze educational institution – today's European Center for the Arts in Hellerau – documenting my engagement from my first encounters with Eurhythmics in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) in 1975 through 2025, spanning 50 years. Key stages include my years of study, the period of German reunification, and the turn of the millennium, which brought new opportunities and a growing interest from the city and the community. These developments are documented through numerous photographs, archival materials from my private collection, and personal encounters. A selected excerpt illustrates the rhythms in and around Hellerau and aims to raise global awareness of the significance of one of the most brilliant researchers, musicians, and composers of the early 20th century, Émile Jaques-Dalcroze. While this utopian vision was once destroyed by war, Europe today faces similar threats. The Hellerau Festival Hall – now once again a place that brings together people from all continents under the symbol of yin and yang – can serve as a symbol of hope.
