The_Walkie Talkie Trio

A short neuroscience story for teachers, students and curious minds, written by an English teacher who explains the brain through characters. It is a short fragment from my upcoming book, The forest whisperer - between empathy and compassion - the swerving path of resilience. What you will find is a snippet analysing what goes on as a student is watching a video on deforestation (the title can be a dead giveaway), then produces the words needed to articulate their research. It doesn't analyse everything (not this excerpt I mean), just the "language crew" involved in the process, translating sounds and letters into meaning and words. This crew is complemented by a few more characters, and you will find the cast right at the start so you know who will talk to you. Yes, brain regions talk back, in my articles at least. My writing uses the proper terminology, just not the way you’d expect. I do it in a humorous, informal way, through unusual analogies, dialogue, 'characters' interrupting me for their spotlight. So it's not formal, and it's definitely not academic. I am an English teacher after all, using neuroscience in class for over 15 years and fascinated by the human brain for much longer...still not a proper expert. PDF, 9 pages, with references. Abstract
