Composición corporal y potencia muscular en miembros inferiores de futbolistas de tercera división colombiana

The aim was to determine the relationship between body composition (body fat [BF], muscle mass [MM], and bone mass [BM]) and lower-limb power in the Abalakov (ABK), Squat Jump (SJ), and Countermovement Jump (CMJ) tests, in third-division Colombian soccer players. A quantitative, descriptive-correlational, cross-sectional study was conducted using non-probabilistic convenience sampling in 21 players from Santoto Club Deportivo (USTA, Tunja), competing in the national Primera C tournament. Body composition was assessed via bioelectrical impedance and power via contact platform, applying the Sayers (1999) formula. Results showed mean height of 174.90 ± 6.56 cm, weight 71.68 ± 6.45 kg, BF 12.90 ± 3.03%, MM 59.28 ± 5.27 kg, and BM 3.10 ± 0.26 kg, with mean power outputs of 3,607.80 ± 396.84 W (ABK), 3,313.55 ± 357.10 W (SJ), and 3,405.66 ± 363.31 W (CMJ). MM and BM showed moderate, positive, and significant correlations with power across all three jumps (r = 0.594-0.660; p < 0.01), whereas BF showed no significant associations. It is concluded that MM and BM are the components most strongly associated with lower-limb power output, whereas BF was not associated with neuromuscular performance in this sample.

Abstract

The aim was to determine the relationship between body composition (body fat [BF], muscle mass [MM], and bone mass [BM]) and lower-limb power in the Abalakov (ABK), Squat Jump (SJ), and Countermovement Jump (CMJ) tests, in third-division Colombian soccer players. Body composition was assessed via bioelectrical impedance and power via contact platform, applying the Sayers (1999) formula. Results showed mean height of 174.90 ± 6.56 cm, weight 71.68 ± 6.45 kg, BF 12.90 ± 3.03%, MM 59.28 ± 5.27 kg, and BM 3.10 ± 0.26 kg, with mean power outputs of 3,607.80 ± 396.84 W (ABK), 3,313.55 ± 357.10 W (SJ), and 3,405.66 ± 363.31 W (CMJ). MM and BM showed moderate, positive, and significant correlations with power across all three jumps (r = 0.594-0.660; p < 0.01), whereas BF showed no significant associations.
