Pengaruh Relaksasi Napas Dalam Terhadap Depresi, Kualitas Hidup, dan Tekanan Darah Lansia Hipertensi : Studi Kuasi-Eksperimental
Hypertension in older adults may affect physical and psychological well-being, including the occurrence of depressive symptoms and reduced quality of life. Deep breathing relaxation is a non-pharmacological intervention that may serve as a complementary approach to hypertension management. This study aimed to analyze the effect of deep breathing relaxation on depression, quality of life, and blood pressure among older adults with hypertension. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group and pretest-posttest measurements was used. A total of 64 respondents were selected through total sampling, consisting of 32 participants in the intervention group and 32 in the control group. The intervention was conducted over two weeks, with three sessions per week, comprising six sessions of 15–20 minutes each. Data were collected using the 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale, a quality-of-life assessment instrument, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure measurements. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and the Mann–Whitney U test. The results showed significant differences in changes between the intervention and control groups in depression scores, systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure. However, no significant difference in quality-of-life changes was found between the two groups. In conclusion, deep breathing relaxation may serve as a complementary nursing intervention to support depression management and blood pressure control in older adults with hypertension, although its superiority in improving quality of life was not statistically demonstrated.
