Wang, Lawrence K. 王抗曝 (2026), “History, Political Ideologies, and Representative Colors of Six Taiwanese Political Parties”《臺灣六個代表性政黨的歷史、政治理念與代表顏色》, Global Humanities and Liberal Arts, Lenox Institute Press, MA, USA; 2026(11A); 41pages. ABSTRACT: The development of Taiwan's modern political party system is closely associated with modern Chinese history, the relocation of the Republic of China (ROC) government to Taiwan in 1949, the lifting of martial law in 1987, and the subsequent process of democratization. This article examines six political parties of contemporary or historical significance: the Kuomintang (KMT), Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Taiwan People's Party (TPP), New Party (NP), People First Party (PFP), and Taiwan Solidarity Party (formerly the Taiwan Solidarity Union). The article reviews their historical origins, representative political figures, ideological orientations, cross-strait policies, and identifying colors. The KMT originated in revolutionary movements in mainland China, whereas the DPP emerged from Taiwan's democratization movement. The New Party, PFP, and Taiwan Solidarity Union developed in connection with political divisions and realignments involving the KMT. The TPP, established in 2019, represents a more recent attempt to create a political alternative to Taiwan's two major traditional parties. Their commonly associated political colors are blue, green, white and teal, yellow, orange, and historically ochre or related colors, respectively. These colors have become recognizable elements of political identity and electoral communication. The study illustrates how Taiwan's political parties reflect the evolution of democratic institutions, national identity, cross-strait relations, and political pluralism. KEYWORDS: Taiwan political parties; Kuomintang; Democratic Progressive Party; Taiwan People's Party; New Party; People First Party; Taiwan Solidarity Party; political colors; cross-strait relations; democratization.
