Digital Communication Algorithms Using Semi-automated Chatbot for Community-based Services on Posyandu Application in Indonesia: Model Development with Qualitative Approach

Abstract Purpose The rapid development of information technology in the world has caused many countries, including Indonesia, to take advantage of this opportunity to increase effectiveness in the health sector. Technological advances in health services make it easier for health workers to communicate with people in remote conditions, one of which is due to limited access to primary healthcare centers/ Pusat Kesehatan Masyarakat ( Puskesmas ) in Indonesia. This requires innovation to facilitate community-based health services, such as integrated health posts/ Pos Pelayanan Terpadu ( Posyandu ) through digital communication with chatbot features. We developed a digital communication algorithm using a semi-automatic chatbot in the Posyandu application. Methods An exploratory qualitative approach was conducted to midwives, cadres, pregnant women, postpartum women, and mothers of toddlers in developing digital communication features in the application. Results The digital communication algorithm shows communication functions, including educational communication between midwives and patients, facilitation between midwives and cadres, advocacy between village midwives and Puskesmas midwives, and coordination between fellow midwives. Conclusions A digital communication development model is needed for the communication functions carried out and the expected goals. In this case, four communication algorithm functions were found: educational communication, facilitation communication, coordination, and advocacy communication.
