Perceived Effectiveness of 3D Anatomy Software in Teaching-Learning of Neuroanatomy and Head-Neck Anatomy: A qualitative Thematic Analysis of Anatomy Educators’ Interviews
Three-dimensional Anatomy software is increasingly used in medical education, particularly for complex spatial topics such as Neuroanatomy and Head-Neck Anatomy. This study explored Anatomy educators’ perceptions regarding the effectiveness of 3D Anatomy software in teaching-learning these subjects. In qualitative study, used in-depth interviews with Anatomy educators who were also medical educationists. Interview data were analyzed thematically, and one major theme, “Perceived effectiveness of 3D Anatomy software,” was developed with three subthemes. Educators perceived the software as effective because it saved time, supported repeated visualization without damaging specimens, was most useful after students had acquired basic anatomical knowledge, and could potentially be incorporated into practical assessments. They viewed it as especially helpful in revision, higher-phase teaching, postgraduate education, and skill-based OSPE-style tasks. Anatomy educators considered 3D Anatomy software a valuable adjunct for advanced teaching, revision, and structured assessment, especially in anatomically complex regions.
