The Effect of Adding Tannin Powder in the Ration on Performance and Nutrient Digestibility of Priangan Sheep

This study was conducted to assess the effects of dietary tannin powder supplementation on the growth performance and nutrient digestibility of Priangan sheep. Eighteen male Priangan sheep, aged 8–9 months and with an average initial body weight of 19.64 ± 2.51 kg, were used in a 77-day experiment consisting of a 7-day adaptation period followed by a 70-day feeding trial. The experiment was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three dietary treatments and six replicates per treatment. The treatments were as follows: P0, 30% corn stover silage and 70% concentrate; P1, 30% corn stover silage, 69% concentrate, and 1% tannin powder; and P2, 30% corn stover silage, 68% concentrate, and 2% tannin powder. The measured parameters included average daily gain (ADG), dry matter intake (DMI), feed efficiency, dry matter digestibility (DMD), and organic matter digestibility (OMD). The data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), and treatment means were compared using Duncan's multiple range test when significant differences were detected. The results showed that dietary tannin powder supplementation did not significantly affect (P > 0.05) growth performance but significantly affected (P ≤ 0.05) nutrient digestibility. The control treatment (P0) produced the best growth performance, whereas supplementation with 2% tannin powder (P2) resulted in the highest DMD and OMD values.
