Design of a Microlearning-Based Educational Strategy to Improve Completion of Rabies Exposure Notification Form 300 by Emergency Physicians at Healthcare Provider Institutions in Colombia
This study designed a microlearning-based educational strategy to improve completion of the rabies exposure notification form 300 by emergency physicians at healthcare provider institutions in Colombia (IPS, the Spanish acronym). We used the ADDIE model, integrating the 2023 national report from the Colombian National Institute of Health (INS), a narrative review, and an analysis of 4,079 notifications from Bogotá’s South Western Integrated Health Services Network (2025–2026). The main national gaps involved mild exposure classification and omission of rabies immunoglobulin in severe exposures. In the Network, the animal’s status was recorded as unknown in 60.6% of forms, and 2.6% of exposures classified as severe under the algorithm and the analysis's operational assumptions had no immunoglobulin order. These findings informed the learning objectives and three components: Clave Rábica, point-of-care support; Rastreo en 10 minutos, audit and feedback during shift handover; and Caso a Caso, spaced practice using microcases. The study was limited to design; content assessment and pilot testing are planned for a subsequent phase, so the strategy’s effectiveness has not yet been established.
