Larung Sesaji Sebagai Mekanisme Ketahanan Ekologi Di Masyarakat Pegunungan Kelud

Communities on the slopes of Mount Kelud, Sugihwaras Village, Ngancar District, Kediri Regency, face recurrent volcanic hazards that demand adaptive strategies extending beyond physical infrastructure into the cultural domain. This study examines how larung sesaji an agricultural offering ritual performed annually during the Javanese month of Surofunctions as a locally grounded ecological resilience mechanism. The research aims to analyze the meaning and practice of larung sesaji in shaping human nature relations, to investigate its role as a socio ecological resilience mechanism, and to understand its contribution to ecosystem balance and intergenerational cultural sustainability. A qualitative case study design was employed, with data collected through indepth interviews with six key informants and field documentation, thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006) guided data interpretation. Findings reveal that larung sesaji operates simultaneously across three dimensions: first, as a cosmological system encoding collective memory of volcanic risk within the mythological narrative of Lembu Suro second, as a social mechanism mobilizing mutual cooperation (gotong royong), strengthening social capital, and facilitating cross faith inclusivity; third, as an ecological conservation instrument regulating human behavior through sacred norms including prohibitions on plastic use in sacred areas and protection of vegetation and water sources. Post 2014 eruption route adaptation demonstrates the epistemic flexibility of the traditional knowledge system in responding to ecological change. The study concludes that larung sesaji constitutes a socio ecological institution that integrates conservation, disaster mitigation, and cultural reproduction synergistically, warranting recognition as a complementary partner in community based environmental governance.
