The Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Development of Contemporary Educational Research
The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies has significantly transformed research methodologies in multiple scientific fields, including education. This study examines the role of artificial intelligence in the development and efficiency of contemporary educational research, from an innovation-oriented economic perspective. The study analyzes how AI-based tools contribute to data collection and processing, pattern identification and evidence-based decision-making. At the same time, we aim to highlight the economic implications of adopting AI in educational research, with a focus on efficiency gains, optimizing resource use and increasing research productivity. Through an analysis of recent scientific literature and a perspective on the development of the field, the main research directions, dominant themes and emerging trends associated with the integration of AI in educational research are highlighted. The results suggest that artificial intelligence can act as a strategic catalyst for improving the speed, analytical capacity and impact of research, while supporting the development of data-based educational policies. However, the potential benefits are accompanied by methodological, ethical and organizational challenges related to data quality, algorithmic bias, data protection, transparency, explainability and academic integrity. Therefore, the use of AI in educational research must be grounded in a human-centered approach, in which technology complements, rather than replaces, the expertise and scientific responsibility of the researcher.
