Flooding the Pipeline: Engaging Nurses in Global Health Diplomacy and Local Action
Nurses are the largest occupational group in the global health workforce (WHO, 2025) and bring frontline knowledge of patients, communities, health systems and implementation. As global citizens and informed healthcare leaders, nurses are uniquely positioned to advocate for vulnerable populations and contribute to global health priorities. Yet their participation in global health governance, diplomacy and advocacy remains limited. The SONSIEL United Nations (UN) Immersion Program was developed to “flood the pipeline” of nurses prepared to engage in global health diplomacy, civil society, advocacy and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)-aligned action. This poster describes the model and early descriptive program-evaluation outcomes.
