Estrategias innovadoras para la prevención del dengue y otras enfermedades transmitidas por vectores en poblaciones rurales.
Vector-borne diseases are primarily classified as public health problems, as they mainly affect tropical and subtropical regions due to environmental, climatic, and social factors that predispose individuals to this condition. Therefore, the objective was to describe innovative strategies for the prevention of dengue and other vector-borne diseases in rural populations. This review involved a literature search with a descriptive approach and a documentary design. The results show that the prevalence obtained in the studies ranged from 2.5% to 63.3%, exhibiting high heterogeneity. Factors associated with high prevalence were: inadequate water storage, inadequate sanitation, garbage or solid waste, climate change, and low community participation. The most frequently applied innovative strategies were: the use of smart mobile applications, digital epidemiological surveillance, the use of geographic information systems, interactive community education, the use of biological vector control methods, and the release of mosquitoes infected with Wolbachia. In conclusion, vector-borne diseases remain a latent public health problem. The aforementioned strategies improve prevention efforts by implementing tools that combine new technologies, biological control, and community education, thus achieving better control in high-risk areas.
